ABOUT THE BOOKSubstance abuse is a global problem of major public concern. It poses health, economic, and social challenges. Hence, many books have been written on the treatment of substance abuse, however, this was done without detailing the practical management of substance abuse. This special book tries to understand substance abuse from four perspectives, namely: biological, psychological, social/cultural, and spiritual. Moreover, the book explores the phenomenon of substance abuse by looking at three important variables such as the etiology, assessment/screening, and treatment. It contains a detailed explanation of the etiology of substance abuse within the framework of the biopsychosocial-spiritual model. In the same vein, the biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment/screening methods are explained and expatiated. This is followed by biopsychosocial-spiritual treatment approach. In addition to the theoretical understanding of biopsychosocial-spiritual etiology, assessment/screening, and treatment, a chapter is dedicated to the practical applications of this model in a rehabilitation set-up. Furthermore, contained in the book, are ten case examples of clients who went through this biopsychosocial-spiritual treatment method. The book is, therefore, a must- read by everyone struggling with the problem of substance abuse. It is both theoretical and practical handbook for professionals who work with patients with chemical addiction and other forms of addiction. It is also very educative and informative for families whose members battle with addiction.About the AuthorEzeakunne Mary Frances is a Nigerian.
